RIDER REWARDS


In the past, Visalia Transit would run quarterly campaigns to boost ridership. These campaigns typically focused on rising gas prices or the environmental impact of too many cars on the road. Realizing this wasn’t a convincing enough message, MMC concepted and developed the Rider Rewards Program. This program rewards each monthly pass holder with pre-loaded cash for local merchants and eateries. For the same price of a traditional monthly transit pass, each cardholder can simply show their Rider Rewards card and receive cash value at over 45 local shops and restaurants. In addition to the buy local incentive, the program warranted a reusable card that gives riders the opportunity to reload online. And because of the personal information recorded during the sale of this reusable pass, Visalia Transit is able to better track their ridership.


Following the program launch, sales of monthly bus passes increased by nearly 20% in the first three months alone. In addition, Visalia Transit has recently announced the highest levels of ridership in the history of serving their community.
